Fire Protection

Fire Impeder

Fire is the rapid oxidation of a material in the exothermic chemical process of combustion, releasing heat, light and various reaction products.

Fire is hot because the conversion of the weak double bond in molecular oxygen, O2 to the stronger bonds in the combustion products carbon dioxide and water releases energy (418 kJ per 32 g of O2); the bond energies of the fuel play only a minor role here.

At a certain point in the combustion reaction; called the ignition point, flames are produced. The flame is the visible portion of the fire. Flames consist primarily of carbon dioxide, water vapor, oxygen and nitrogen. If hot enough, the gases may become ionized to produce plasma.

Depending on the substances alight and any impurities outside, the color of the flame and the fire’s intensity will be different.

Fire in its most common form can result in conflagration, which has the potential to cause physical damage through burning.

Fire is an important process that affects ecological systems around the globe. The positive effects of fire include stimulating growth and maintaining various ecological systems.

Fire safety is the set of practices intended to reduce the destruction caused by fire. Fire safety measures include those that are intended to prevent ignition of an uncontrolled fire, and those that are used to limit the development and effects of a fire after it starts.

Fire safety measures include those that are planned during the construction of a building or implemented in structures that are already standing, and those that are taught to occupants of the building.

Threats to fire safety are commonly referred to as fire hazards. A fire hazard may include a situation that increases the likelihood of a fire or may impede escape in the event a fire occurs.

Since fire safety is often a component of building safety; therefore; in order to control the fire there is one product by the name of FireFree 88 (also called FF88) which can be used as a Fire Retardant.

Firefree 88 (FF88) is premium quality water based, non toxic, thin film intumescent fire retardant and resistant coating which can be used individually or as part of a system to provide the fire resistance elements in construction, transportation and insulation that can withstand extreme temperatures (up to 2000° Fahrenheit) for a period of time (up to two hours).

Firefree 88 is a cost efficient; as a result of its’ superior fire resistant performance, only a relatively thin layer of FF88 will be required. As a result, FF88 provides significant material and labor cost reductions (savings of 30 to 70% and above) when compared to other options in situations such as retrofit and historical upgrades, defective construction, new construction or transportation.

FF88 is easy to use; high quality, non-toxic, water based retardand and resistant (matte) paint with excellent adhesion and durability and is easy to apply by brush, roller or sprayer. In most cases, FF88 will be self-priming, thus resulting in additional cost savings, single component fire retardant and resistant coating formulated to provide timed fire resistant for the construction, transportation and insulation industries.

Firefree 88 can be applied to a wide range of combustible materials and assemblies: including gypsum board, wood, lather and plaster, embossed tin, thin gauge metal, foam, foam composite panels, fiberglass, carbon fiber and other composite materials. Its use is recommended for residential, multifamily, commercial and industrial projects (schools, dormitories, assisted living, hospice care, nursing homes, hotel, stores, restaurant, transportation…).

FF88 contains fire to its room of origin. By protecting the walls and ceilings and preventing them from contributing to the fire.

FF88 will limit the amount of combustible materials available for flashover. This will prevent the fire from spreading or, at a minimum, slow it down thus giving people time to escape and firemen time to arrive and safely save property. In some cases, fires can burn out after exhausting the initial combustible materials.

FF88 limits smoke propagation. The production of smoke in a fire is often more lethal than the fire itself. Simulations and tests have proven that using FF88 will limit the combustibility of the room and thus dramatically reduce the smoke generated, allowing extra minutes to escape.

FF88 preserves structural integrity. Since FF88 can contain the fire to the room of origin and prevent fire penetration of the walls and ceiling, the potential fire damage to the studs and ceiling joists in a structure is dramatically reduced, preventing structural collapse while allowing firefighters the extra safety to fight the fire from the inside.

FF88 is non-toxic and environmentally safe and has no toxic fumes, little or no odor and has passed the stringent requirements for solvents.
